Cyprus National Report Highlights the Need for Practical Tools for Youth Mental Well-being Through Sport

The MindFit National Report for Cyprus is now available on the project website as part of the project’s open resources. The report was developed under the research and needs analysis phase of the MindFit Training Toolkit and explores how sport and physical activity are already being used in Cyprus to support young people’s participation, resilience, communication, and social connection. It draws on desk research, a survey that reached 22 respondents, and qualitative input from 7 youth workers and practitioners working with young people in community, non-formal education, and sports-related settings.

The findings show clear potential, but also clear gaps. Practitioners in Cyprus already see sport as a promising way to discuss emotions and mental well-being in a natural and less stigmatising setting. At the same time, many say they need more confidence, practical methods, and clear guidance to use sport intentionally and safely for mental health support. The report points to strong demand for short session plans, step-by-step activity cards, real examples, and adaptable exercises, with high training needs around self-esteem, emotional regulation, stress management, mental health literacy, and inclusion.
